Bonjour

Well good morning to you back in Australia... as the sun sets here on our first day here in Paris just thought I would send a quick blog to tell you how very French Ralf and I felt, walking around our little shopping district near the Saint Emilion Metro station. There is a little complex with a movie theatre and restuarants which were a little scary to us, but Bruce our guide had directed us to a supermarket so feeling very french we went in and bought some bread, cheese, meat and fruit and a small bottle of wine and had a picnic in our room. We needed a quiet afternoon as we both are weary, with swollen feet and have set opurselves up for a huge day tomorrow... Palace of Versailles, the Louvre and then dinner at Eiffel tower, Siene cruise and Molin Rougue, oh boy a huge day. Friday we can sleep in and go at a slower pace and just wander aimlessly for a while... and hmmm maybe a picnic along the banks of the River. looking forward to it.
Thanks Lynn the sun will be with us for our whole time in PAris. Steph dad was laughing that he wont be able to help do the finals footy with you and we keep meeting Collingwood supporters!! Trish can't wait to see what is on the hunt for PAris! Alex love that we are your morning read at the hospital. Hi to all of you who are reading and cant comment. We had the same probs commenting on another blog and had to download Firefox and now it works!!!
Much Love the PArisian MArx's

  1. Good Morning Sleepy Heads!

So to save you having to look through all of your copious amounts of mail I have copied and pasted your Paris list underneath here!

It is looking like a fun packed journey and so glad that you are getting all the tours around - it makes it so much easier. Loved the photo of Mini Meeks peeking out - is that because he is afraid that he doesn't have his passport with him???

Great to talk to you this morning - will put on Skype now - at my desk for a couple of hours knocking over a stack of content for the Australia site.

    Love to you both!

Oh - talking of Paris - here is your list:

Treasure Hunt: Something from the Moulin Rouge - especially if it involves feathers or sequins or both..... and then something Notre Damish - especially if it is gothic looking.

Then - for your recommendations it goes:

Visit the Louvre and get photos standing near the pyramid. Find Maxims and even if you just buy a small tin of chocolates - it is something that features a lot in films.

So that is the treasure hunting for Paris.

But now - the thing to do is (and I know your breakfast is included in your room) but you need to wander past any of the cafe's for coffee and have coffee and baguette. They serve this beautiful warm baguette with butter and generally home made jams. We had this every day and it was delightful.

With Notre Dam - don't expect it to be all black and wizened looking. I walked straight past it as I was looking for what I had always seen in brochures. It is now clean and pristine. The front is impressive but if you have a chance - go out the back - the structure is impressive from that angle and there are (on weekends) bands playing out along the river and on the bridges.

Also - if you find the Alexandre Bridge (there are a stack of Bridges) get a photo please - we have a collection of Alex named things in our photos so one with you guys would be great!

    Have an awesome day!

  2. Dear Parisians!,
Loved the idea of a picnic in your hotel room, how sweet!! Though I am getting a bit worried about all your wine consumption these days Ralfy!!!
Hope you had a wonderful day and night. I am sure if you were feeling tired by the end of the day, the Molin Rougue would have certainly bought you back to life!!!
See if you can come across a little street market tomorrow while you are walking around. We found one about a twenty minute walk from Notre Dam. As Trish mentioned, make sure you go around the back of Notre Dam. It really is impressive and the gardens are just beautiful.
    Happy walking and exploring Paris.
    Love and miss you heaps.
    Lynn xoxo

  3. Good Morning Sleepy Heads - big night for you obviously with Moulin Rouge!! Hope it was fantastic!

Lynny is right - there are markets not far - and if you actually go along the banks of the river there - some of those 'markets' which are boxes hanging off the side of the walls on the path are actually over 100 years old. Classic Paris! Usually they sell lots of old books!

I will be logging off of skype soon as I have some work to do outside!

You won't catch us tomorrow morning as we are having a sleep in. Alex's first day off after 10 days straight - so she is looking forward to that. Then in the afternoon we are off the the opening of the Qld Equestrian Centre at Caboolture for a sticky beak! So - no doubt we will miss you again. But have no fear - we will send you some Skype messages!

    Lots of love
    Trish

  4. Hi guys

Hope you are enjoying your world travels. (Lucky Lucky Lucky)

I am in the process of trying to book my return airfare ticket can you let me know when you are both going back to work. I am not sure when I will actually finish as the weather forecast for the next week or two is rain and showers.

I still have the garage and fair bit of the front to go. ( Although the worst is behind me).

By the way Sam thanks for those meals they have been terrific. I have actually had them for lunch as I have obtained a pretty good appetite whilst here. Trish brought over a fabulous roast for me last night. A really fantastic meal which I greatly appreciated.

Must go Bargain Hunt is about to start.

    Cheers Gerv
