Well hello to all our family and friends who are following our travels around the beautiful United Kingdom- yes you amy have guessed it, I have stolen the computer from Ralf's hot little hands and I am writing the blog. WE are sitting in our room (suite almost) at Browns Farm in Marlborough after yet another wonderful day on the road together.
First stop this morning was 7 miles down the road at the BAirds birthplace and where he did most of his writing - Stratfrod-Upon-Avon. We saw the house where he was the born, the pubs his friends drank at, where he married Anne Hathaway and where he was buried in Holy Trinity church. We walked around this beautiful village taking photos of all the incredible old buildings. A beautiful town. We strolled along the river Avon watching swans glide in and ferryman taking people from one side to the other. We were lucky enough to get there early so we avoided the massive crowds and bus loads of Europeans and Japanese.
Then our journey continued to Stonehenge on Salisury Plain. Breathtaking is the only word to describe it I think. The NAtional trust do such a great job of looking after and managing all these sights. We strolled around listen to the descriptions of the significance of the stones and theories to what they all might mean, but it doesnt matter what you believe going there should be on everyones bucket list.
And now we are here at Browns Farm where our host Hazel has made us feel very welcome, all before she went out to help her husband dry grain. Each of our B&Bs have been very different but all bar one we have felt very comfortable at. Yesterdays building was over 300 years old!
Thanks for all your comments we love recieving them. Alex we love that you fit in time to follow us while you are waiting for emergencies!!! Glad you are feeling better. Gervase, I was damn graceful! Steph dad cant believe you brought up the phone bill (I say you go girl!!!!!!). Trish great to talk to you briefly on Skype, MM had a day off today. Good Morning lovelies!
ReplyDeleteGreat to chat to you on Skype even if there was rather a delay! Hopefully this afternoon it won't be as bad!
Love the photo's! The look awesome. Shame that the camera ran out of batteries for Stone Henge!! Glad that you loved Stratford upon Avon - we too found it touristy - but it is so quaint like you say if you can get there early enough!
Hmm - Ralfy first thing in the morning............Maybe it is Sammies dream!!! But seriously - was wonderful to chat to you both - and to see the camera hog.
So Ralfy - I take it the long sleeve Scottish Jersy is the Jersy for the trip - all photo's seem to be in this one! Haven't seen the blue one yet!!
Sam - love your descriptions ! You really do write well!
Have to go - got a stack to do.
Lots and heaps of love
Trish & Meeks

Good Morning Again!
ReplyDeleteFinally - showered and just about to start in the office!
So - it started out fine here today and it was bright and sunny - however, the clouds seem to be looming agin. Hopefully the weather will be better on the weekend. Going to check the tide times to see if we can take the boys out!
Lets see - the treasure hunt today should be quite easy. You are going to Oxford! One of my most favourite places ever! So - something old that has university significance. Hey Ralf - do you still have your Oxford Uni Shirt???
Okay - as for recommendations there are two. First of all - as you know - alot of filming of Harry Potter happened here - see if you can find some of the places (there is actually a map from memory at the info centre if you need help!!!) And then - one of the things that the colleges or houses do is compete for the best lawn. Most of the dorms are set around a square and each house has their own patch of lawn and the competition is taken very very very seriously. Some of the lawns we saw were sooo green that they hurt your eyes - so - go see if you can find some of the finalist contenders!
That is it for me for now. Must get back to work.
Lots of love
Trish

Hi Ralf and Sandra,
ReplyDeleteWe seem to have trouble communicating
through the blog. None of our trials work.
Wish you good speed and weather for the
reminder of the holiday.
Love you both,
Mum and Dad
Sounds like you're having a blast! Aren't Stratford and Stonehenge both amazing??? I remember there being a great curry house in Stratford...fantastic Indian food! Did you walk through the beautiful gardens at Shakespeare's house?
