St Marco Bacillia

Just a quick little post to show you St Marks Square it was packed!! today was 38 degrees with 100% hunidity ( Trish you would have loved it ) I basically swam everywhere today in my clothes very comfortable and then at the end of the day it rained and made it even worse!!
Still we had a great day and after our Siesta we travelled to the square and looked at the wonderful buildings and the bridge of sighs, following that we went to the Rialto bridge and there was a big festival under way where the various suburbs of Venice race their boats like Dragon boats down the canals it was very colorful and lots and lots of people there to watch, we are back at our hotel now and are watching it on TV so its obviously a big deal.
Trish will try to skype tonight ( your morning ) if you send me a text message on my phone when you are about i will boot up the putey as i have limited Wi Fi here, ok enjoy the pictures and Steph i didnt cry it is very humid here and i am sweating a lot!!
Love to you all Ralf Sam & mm xxx

  1. Hi Ralfy and Sammy,
Have been loving following your adventures although have been keeping a little quiet in the background. Thought I'd jump in and say my gidday. The pics have been marvelous! You both are looking like you are having the best time. Venice looked so lovely in fact it all does!! I think there is something very special about being somewhere so old and full of so much history and you are getting to see it and touch it for real! That is so amazing :) Looking forward to when you get back home and hearing all the stories of your trip. Miss you both heaps and love you both oodles :) Vic xoxo

  2. Well done guys wished I was there Venice is terrific. Mind you I think you are off to Florence and this is also a remarkable place.

I included below the e-mail that I sent out to all regarding the results of the footy comp:

Well the footy season has finished for us all, attached is the final spreadsheets detailing the winner, the runners up and then the rest of us.

Congratulations goes to Captain Chaos by winning the competition by one single game. Runner up was Evil Clown, followed by Le-Girls and falling at the last hurdle was the Butster.

This weeks winner was no other than Michaelangelo who was able to pick seven lucky winners, obviously left his run too late.

A few interesting facts from the year:

Only three tipsters were able to pick 8 winners on three occasions, namely

Butser, Evil Clown and Nar-dee- Star.

(Did note include those rounds where only seven games were played as it was too complicated to work out)

Two tipsters never managed to score a single 8 game round, namely

Lil-Em and Punisher. (Considering where thy both finished they both obviously were very consistent)

The lowest score for any round was two achieved by a few however Michaelangelo wins this tiltle as he achieved it twice.

Overall a very entertaining season and look foward to 2012 with great anticipation.

To Captain Chaos, on Ralf's return a trophy will be coming your way and appropriate photographs will be sent to all .

I am sure Ralf will be sending out a more detailed e-mail to you all sometime soon.

    Enjoy

  3. Good Morning

Well - looks like the skype thing is difficult. We left the line open from about 1 (a little ambitious) till around 8 last night. We thought if we missed you at breakfast we would have caught you at siesta time. Alex was exceptionally disappointed as you could see by all the skype messages. She refused to go outside just in case she missed your call!

Not too worry. We didn't see your messaged to send you a text until now as our blog didn't refresh for some reason. Didn't think about your phone as you said you had turned it off.

So - love the photo's - hope you enjoyed the lemoncillo. I found it was only good in shots or with lemonade or soda. I used to have it with my espresso - that is where it comes into its own.

    Onto your treasure hunting details:

Firenze: Something to do with the Statue of David...

Then the recommendations were - share a litrebeer (done), enjoy a limoncelli (done) Get a photo from the shoreline of one of the most colourful bridges you can find!

So - obviously not much for that part of the adventure.

You will be fine getting to your hire car. The water bus drops you right at the port of all the parking stations and all the hire cars are just there. Easiest thing to do though is for one of you to stay with the luggage and the other to suss out which place has the keys and get your directions from them sorted as there is a lot of coming and going and then reconvene and go to the car together. Take water in your bag with you. You will so want it by the time you get through all the bussle of getting the keys and getting the car. We had it easy as ours was parked where we left it! Also - here is a tip. Get the local paper and put it on your back parcel rack. It makes you less of a target for thiefs. If they think the car owners are Italian - they are less likely to break in.

The drive out is initially very good with great sign posts above the road. Just follow those until you are on the road to Florence. It does get a little hectic at the intersection between Venice and the main highway - so try not to be close to the big trucks so you don't miss any of the signs. But I am sure that Narelle will give you plenty of warning. Also - make sure that you take a pit stop before getting into Florence as some of the turns can be quite quick to make and sometimes you might miss them and blockies don't really work like they do here. Better to be not busting when navigating to your next place to stay.

Your adventures are wonderful. Glad you are enjoying it all.

    Lots of love
    Trish
